Review: Neyo concert - Los Angeles, CA 12.30.09
December 30th, 2009
Club Nokia
Los Angeles, CA
8:30 PM
There was no opening act tonight. It was just Neyo and his band. I had tempered expectations for this concert as I was concerned about the depth of his personal music catalog. I was happy to learn that I was wrong. Neyo performed for one hour and 45 minutes straight with only two costume changes and no intermission. He ran through all of his hits including personal favorites "Sexy Love", "So sick" and "Miss Independent".
The crowd immediately connected with Neyo and stayed involved throughout the entire show. The beauty of Club Nokia is that it is a small venue so it is an acoustic treat and no seat (or place to stand) is a bad one. One of my favorite moments of the show us when he would quiz the audience on songs that he wrote for other artists and urge the crowd to sing along. "spotlight" (Jennifer Hudson) and "Let me Love you" (Mario) drew the best reaction.
I wish he would have sung his part of "baby by me" (50 cent), but maybe next time. I was also surprised that he sang only a few Michael Jackson songs but then again, Neyo is trying to maintain his individuality so I can respect that.
Overall, I was very impressed with the show Neyo put on. To sing and dance for almost two hours straight and stay strong for the entire show is no small feat. I could be selfish and say I wish he had some guests sit in with him during the show (since he was in LA) to add to the depth of the show. I won't say that this time but since I would buy a ticket for his next show, I expect that to happen.
