Remember when you would either give or receive a slow jam mix tape or a BMM tape? (Baby Makin Music) Then it progressed to a CD... and now we are on special playlists ... Well ... Mirth:Nadir is born from those roots. Mirth+Nadir=the two strongest emotions of love possible. We will explore these emotions on a weekly basis on this show. Last night I had the pleasure of going to see Mariah Carey as her current tour comes to a close. She has three more shows left in this tour which began at the beginning of 2010. This was the third Mariah concert I have attended, but the first in a smaller venue which she has a chance to be even more intimate with the crowd. For all the talk of Mariah losing a "step" and not hitting all her notes, these are just rumors. Consistently throughout the show she showed her wide octave range and delighted the crowd who was buzzing from the start. Also, to give Mariah credit, the show started right @ 9 PM which was on time. A pleasant surprise for sure. Throughout the entire show Mariah mixed in new hits and some of her classics. Some favorite performances include "Always be My Baby", "Angel Cry", "My All" (half of the song), and "Touch My body" (which the crowd sang along with gleefully).
Mariah's voice sounded strong and she hit her signature high notes. The notes might not have been as tight as when she first hit the scene, but she still sounded very good throughout the entire show. If I was going to complain about anything, I wish she would have sang more of her older hits (Love Takes Time, Beautiful Ones, Vision of Love, Against all odds) as well as more of her newer hits (Side Effects, Inseparable, Rainbow and I Want to Know what Love is). Simply put, I just wanted more.
This was my favorite Mariah show out of the three I have been to. I look forward to seeing her again in a similar intimate venue.
